Learning with the Land Program Welcomes You

Learning with the Land Program is a year-round nature immersion program for children ages 4-12 that aims to provide an on-the-land, child-led learning experience that encourages the development of the whole child. Emphasis is placed on connection with the self, each other and the land through outdoor learning activities that encourage self-confidence, self-regulation, resilience and working with peers. Let’s get outside, get dirty, and get connected with nature!

About Learning with the Land Program

We would like to respectfully acknowledge that the land that we learn and play on is on Chief Drygeese territory, the traditional land of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation descendants of Tetsǫ́t’ıné. We would like to acknowledge the knowledge holders of this land, both past, present and those emerging. Learning with the Land (previous Rooted in nature) was established in 2021 (by Anabel) with the goal of providing frequent and repeated access to the land for children in Yellowknife. This program is rooted around creating an environment for exploring that is child-led, where the child's creativity and inquiry guides our daily plan. We provide a variety of safe, age-appropriate materials and tools for fort building, dramatic play, mud kitchen creations, arts, crafts and more.We also make sure the children learn an approach about the Land, to be thankful and respectfus about the richess of the Land. We incorporate some cutting fish, ptarmigan, duck in a Dene way, With respect for the animals who gave his life for feed us.We also collaborate with local businesses and knowledge holders to create a community and culturally rich on-the-land experience.
