Rooted in Nature Program Welcomes You
Rooted in Nature Program is a year-round nature immersion program for children ages 4-12 that aims to provide an on-the-land, child-led learning experience that encourages the development of the whole child. Emphasis is placed on connection with the self, each other and the land through outdoor learning activities that encourage self-confidence, self-regulation, resilience and working with peers. Let’s get outside, get dirty, and get connected with nature!
About Rooted in Nature Program
Rooted in Nature Program was established in 2021 with the goal of providing frequent and repeated access to the land for children in Yellowknife. This program is rooted around creating an environment for exploring that is child-led, where the child's creativity and inquiry guides our daily plan. We provide a variety of safe, age-appropriate materials and tools for fort building, dramatic play, mud kitchen creations, arts, crafts and more. We also collaborate with local businesses and knowledge holders to create a community and culturally rich on-the-land experience.

“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.”

- John Muir

“Teaching children about the natural world should be seen as one of the most important events in their lives.”

- Thomas Berry
“The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth.”

- Maria Montessori

“Leave no child inside.”

"This program is a welcome change from all the other programs where a huge mass of kids do the same thing everyday. With our family's interest in environmental health and being on the land, this program is really appealing. The instructors are so wonderful with them being teachers already; they're well accustomed to the behavior of children and their varied learning experiences. I really appreciated their patience and dedication in providing a fun and safe space for all the kids. We plan on enjoying this program every year, for years to come."
